In logs, descriptions, and in anime itself, there are words left in the original Japanese. Why? Because translating such common place words seems silly, or the raw Japanese terms helps to develop or keep the feel needed for a true otaku to envelope themselves in during scenes. The following is a list of terms, etc, that you'd encounter on my site or within anime. Included are cursory words, so if you're under age... Don't let your parents know where you've learned it! o_o; .oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo. Quick addition: Additional words, unto mine own, were contributed, explained and spell checked by Heather and Jarred. Hope you two are happy with the corrections! :P .oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo. -chan - Suffix used with names among close friends; elders to youngsters. -dono - Suffix used during the time of Fuedal Japan for both men and women and is a term of respect for those admired or considered of equal status. -kun - Suffix used with names; mostly used for boys alone, although is also used for tomboys (boyish girls). -P - Sometimes used suffix by girls for other girls; it's an overly cute and childish way to refer to someone. PRONUNCIATION TIME! Wahoo! .oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo. Double Letters: Yuki: You-kee Yuuki: You-kee. However..! The double 'u' is held for longer, giving subtle difference. Zettai: Zayt-tah-ee. More difficult to explain without showing the hiragana spelling as the double 't' has a slight pause caused by the tiny character 'tsu'. This makes the 't' sound slightly longer and enunciated a touch more emphatically than a single 't' would warrant. Vowels: A - Sounds like 'ah' E - Sounds like 'ay' I - Sounds like 'ee' O - Sounds like 'oh' U - Sounds like 'oo' Additional: N - Is often used by itself to add a singular 'nn' sound that is seperate from other syllables. Examples: Ai (love) = Ah-ee Koibito (lover) = Koh-ee-bee-toh Urusai (Shut up) = Oo-roo-sah-ee Yurusenai (I won't forgive you.) = Yoo-roo-say-nah-ee Mokushiroku (Apocalypse) = Moh-koo-shee-roh-koo Heiki (I'm fine.) = Hay-ee-kee Bishounen (pretty boy) = Bee-shoh-oo-nay-nn .oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.oO0Oo.
